It’s official: fluency is just around the corner!
Well, maybe not just, but our teacher did proudly tell us today that we have been studying one month and have come very far, so she thinks by three months we will be fluent! (Yes, she used the word fluent!) She also said she noticed that we are studying at home and that it is helping. I’m a complete goody-two-shoes and this made me feel wonderful.
For the first two weeks we tried to take our two hour lesson together, but it wasn’t working too well. The language came a little easier to me, so Stephen ended up quiet. We then suggested that for the first hour she talks directly to Stephen and I simply listen, then we switch. It’s been working so much better and she is so proud of him. He’s getting much better in his speaking and she was telling him today how he is understanding more and speaking more!
We try to study our vocabulary at home every day and she has started to make us little homework sheets that we take to translate five sentences from English to Karen and five sentences from Karen to English. Anyway, we’re excited.

AWESOME. That is hard work, and it says that if anything, you’re getting an idea of how the language is constructed–enough that you can use it to communicate effectively! Have you started dreaming in Karen yet? I always seemed to speak wonderful Spanish in my dreams, despite my real-life atrocious grammar…

This is awesome! We’ve been praying that like the men in Daniel 1:17, God would give you “knowledge and undersanding of all kinds of literature and learning” and that you would be able to grasp the language quickly.
Not doubting that God is answering our prayers, but just wanting to make sure that you understand the Karen word for “fluent” and don’t have that confused. Smile.

How cool is that! Truly an answer to prayer. I had to chuckle when you admitted you were a “goody two-shoes”. No. Really? =o) And we are so proud of Stephen!!! We love you guys.

How cool that your teacher was able to see how both of you could learn better! Keep it up!
By the way — did you choose what little patchwork thing I got assigned on here or did the computer? Not that I’m complaining, I’ve just been wondering if it was random or if there was something about it that made you say, “Oh, that looks like Keri…”

We don’t get a say…they simply get assigned, but this completely made me laugh that you noticed! I might have picked this, but a brighter or more melon-y pink. Not so baby-esque 🙂
I love that you noticed this and asked. Really made me laugh!
