To invest in the future of our friends, we want to make education a reality for them. We do our best to encourage schooling and try to find ways to keep kids attending school. We do our best to help with uniforms, backpacks, and lunches for kids that need it most. We are available for English homework help through the school year, and also provide access to additional learning materials at our house, including multilingual books, computer practice, and educational games.
On Saturdays, we have Schoolhouse, where kids under twelve come to class! We usually have forty to fifty kids come together for music, story time, and a Bible story. After we have rice together, we divide into groups for English classes.
In our youth group, we do a weekly English lesson for the thirteen to twenty year olds. We are currently watching Planet Earth alongside an English workbook.
During the summer months, we do our best to provide supplemental learning for additional English practice, math practice, and other activities for all ages.
As individual needs arise, we do our best to provide solutions. This means we have a literacy program for one young mom, and a scholarship program for the first university student in the community. We provide opportunities to learn English with Rosetta Stone, and we have begun training the youth in specific interests to them, including computer skills, video editing, sound engineering, guitar, drums, and ukulele.
We have had the opportunity for education our entire lives—something we don’t want to take lightly nor neglect to share! We want expand the skills and opportunities of our closest friends—hopefully giving them a hand up!—while we continue to do life together.
