This past Saturday, we threw an epic party for my dad. It was the work of an entire year to get all five siblings on the same continent and over 150 people into one room to celebrate him! But he turns sixty this year, he’s one of the greatest guys we all know, and he is the BEST person to throw a surprise party for, so it was completely worth it!
We started with snacks, of course.
And then we waited for the big arrival…
…which did not disappoint. He was shocked.
Then he found my sister, Janel, the only one he didn’t know was already in town. We were missing a son-in-law and four grandkids, but it’s been awhile since all the sisters were in one room.
So many friends and family drove so far, and we are so thankful! It was fun to have a room full of people there to celebrate Dad.
Then we did a little quiz on Dad and got a few laughs! Here’s to Steven, the best emcee I know.
And then friends shared their favorite memories & stories of Dad and told him just how great he is!
Of course we had to light 60 candles, despite the smoke alarm risk…

So sorry we couldn’t be there! Sounds as if everyone had a blast! I can remember when Gary was born! Did anyone record or video the program or the quiz? I’d love to see it!

Thanks for sharing all of the pictures! I love your dad’s surprised look. And I loved seeing pictures of Jen’s baby 🙂

I am so sorry we could not make it. But you would now have wanted me there as I have been sick…still am. But I was there with you in spirit. Oh, how I loved working with Gary. He is “quite the guy.” The biggest thing I am thankful for is all of his family got to be in LR. That is a blessing in itself. Thanks for inviting us.

Fun pictures! I wanted to go so badly, but thankful God gave me the discernment not to because of pain and a rash. I didn’t know until the next day when I went to the ER that I had Shingles. That was a complete surprise since I had the vaccination two years ago. I thank God for protection of my friends’ children. Though Shingles isn’t transferrable to another person, it is the same virus that causes chicken pox. I’m glad you all had a great time, but under the circumstances, I’m thankful I wasn’t there. I enjoy working with Gary and hope he has a great year! I have now been cleared by my doctor to be in public.
God bless your whole family!

Wow! This is priceless! I wish we could have been there to help celebrate and join the festivities! Too bad we were in Nigeria!
Gary, thanks for investing so many years of your life in the Kingdom of God. What a legacy you are creating, both in your family and your ministry. May the Lord continue to bless and increase them both!
