The House Collective

why?

In the 90s, James Mawdsley visited Burma with the intent of being arrested, hoping to document the cruelties of the Burmese military prisons. It didn’t take long for him to be arrested after simply shouting for democracy on a street corner.  I love his response to the military intelligence questioning:

“Why have you come to Burma?” the military intelligence Colonel asked.

“Because I love Burma, I love the people here, and I hate what your regime is doing to them.”

“It is not your country. Why do you interfere?”

“It is one world. It is my brothers and sisters that you are torturing, raping and murdering. It is absolutely my business to protest against that.”

Just something to think about.
